CPN

Cost Per Nut

What Is Cost Per Nut?

The short version: a metric for measuring how much your dating spend is producing.

The one-paragraph version

Cost Per Nut, often abbreviated CPN, is a ratio that divides your total dating-related spend by the count of times you achieved a defined outcome over the same period. It's a back-of-the-envelope way to measure the ROI of your dating life. Lower numbers usually mean you're being more efficient. Higher numbers usually mean you're paying too much for the outcomes you're getting.

Why it caught on

CPN went viral because it does something rare: it makes a fuzzy, emotional, easily-rationalized category of spending suddenly legible. Most guys carry around an estimated dating budget that's wildly optimistic. Computing CPN shatters the estimate and replaces it with a real number — and the gap between the estimate and the real number is itself a moment of clarity.

The other reason: it's funny. The math is straightforward, but the conclusion is sometimes brutal, and TikTok has spent the last two years rewarding exactly that combination of reasonable input and unreasonable result.

Computing your own

Step one: pick a time period. A month is the most useful unit. Step two: add up every dating-related dollar you spent in that month. Don't undercount. Step three: count your outcomes. Step four: divide. The result is your CPN for the period.

If the result surprises you, you're in good company. About 80% of first-time CPN computers find their actual number is 2-3x their guess.

Using the number

The number itself is informational. The action is what comes next. Common moves: shift venues down a tier, switch to earlier dates, reduce transport spend, have an honest conversation with the highest-CPN girl in the portfolio. Track for another month. The trendline starts moving.

The trick to using CPN well is to treat it as a leading indicator, not a verdict. The number doesn't decide who you date or how you live. It just shows you the data you'd otherwise be ignoring, so the decisions you make are made with eyes open.
